Sophisticated Sancerre

One of the most highly regarded producers of the Loire Valley, Domaine Vincent Pinard has slowly risen to a grand total of 17 hectares comprising 12.5 of Sauvignon Blanc and 4.5 of Pinot Noir. Run by two brothers Florent and Clement Pinard, they have taken their father’s famously rigorous practices to a whole new level, and the wines have never been better. An enviable holding of old vines in prime sites naturally reduces yields, combined with attentive viticulture that sees hard pruning, spring de-budding, summer thinning and hand harvesting, all in an effort to maximise quality potential and ensure even ripening across both reds and whites. Once in the cellar the grapes are pressed slowly and gently in to top-of-the-range stainless steel fermenters or oak vats depending on the wine, before fermentations take place slowly with fine lees contact until the following Spring, producing wines of great sensual and terroir expression. If the whites are a model of purity and finesse then the reds are equally fine, and perhaps even more impressive for it. Beautiful depth of ripe fruit, silky textures and high toned Pinot aromas – these are incredibly sophisticated Sancerres that will satisfy even the most ardent Burgundy enthusiast.

Today we are delighted to offer the Charlouise Sancerre Rouge 2014. At five years old it is hitting its stride and drinking beautifully. It comes from a 1.50 hectare plot grown on clay limestone with the vines averaging an impressive 50 years old. Completely organic, low yielding and entirely destemmed before fermentation and aging in oak for 18 months. 2014 is a superb, classical vintage in the Loire Valley, combining freshness and just the right amount of sunshine to ensure even, healthy fruit. What’s more, the duty paid inc. VAT price per bottle is just £30.68 – a veritable bargain for a Pinot Noir of such standing.
