Spring Drinking
29 April 2016

Despite an unusual dusting of snow at the end of April, it seems that Spring has finally sprung. The trees have blossomed, daffodils been and gone, and we wait with baited breath for a glorious summer to unfurl. Whether it’s the first barbeque, garden party or simple lunch outside, we have a selection of wines perfect for spring drinking. In fact, following the success of our Spring portfolio tasting last week, we thought it only fitting to select a few highlights. Particularly successful were the 2014 Anjou and Savennieres, as presented by the mischievous Thibaud Boudignon; a rising star of the Loire Valley, whose wines become ever more focussed and precise year-on-year. Indeed, 2014 was an outstanding vintage for the Loire - racy and pure like the 2013s - but flattered by a boost of sunshine at both ends of the season, a livener for wines marked by freshness married to supple, sunny fruit flavours. Enjoy the Anjou sec in its youth, and pop the more concentrated Cuvee a Francoise and Savennieres away for another year or two.    Read More
