Taittinger Comte de Champagne 2011
12 October 2021

Today we’re delighted to offer the latest vintage of Taittinger Comte de Champagne, the 2011. Having returned to the family hands in 2006, this much loved maison is on a bit of a roll; their tête de cuvée is adored by those in the know for its hallmark finesse led, detailed style of Blanc de Blancs. It is undoubtedly one of Champagne’s finest prestige Cuvees, Blancs de Blancs or otherwise and as a result it is rare that stock ever sits on our list for long. 2011 is a worthy successor to the magnificent 2008 release, albeit from a strikingly different vintage.

Marked by early ripening and a spring drought, it is undoubtedly a vintage that has played into the hands of Champagne’s better sites. With fruit for the blend coming exclusively from the Côtes des Blancs Villages of Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, Taittinger’s Comte has got it right in 2011. Precise, deftly handled chardonnay fruit explodes in a puff of chalky, citrus aromas; this may be a decade old but it poses for a wine far younger. On the palate lively acidity plays off a fine creamy mousse, a sense of grapefruit sorbet shot through with crushed chalk and blanched almonds and a light touch of green olive/citrus pith to finish.
