The best value Classified Growth Claret available on our list
04 April 2020

This year, the Easter weekend may be a more sombre affair than normal, but with butchers and wine-merchants still delivering British lamb and Classed Growth Claret, the traditional Easter Sunday meal needn’t be abandoned. The marriage of tender young lamb and Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the poor gravelly soils of the Medoc is always a winning combination, and our standout favourite at the moment is the utterly delicious 2012 Château Cantemerle. At a recent tasting, we were blown away by the quality and texture of its fruit. There’s a plushness, generosity and approachability we associate with 2012; yet, there’s much more depth than we were expecting, a real intensity and length to the pure cassis fruit, framed by a fine, detailed network of tannins. This classical beauty is à point and ready to go, and, at just £26.68 per bottle on your table, we think it’s a bit of a bargain...

“This red shows some cassis, blueberries and floral notes on the nose. Some tar, too. Medium to full body, juicy tannins and a fruity finish. Enticing wine. Drink now or hold. 92/100” - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, Feb 2015    Read More
