The Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) was founded in 1982 intending to improve the quality of South African wine and lead the way in ambition and excellence. Over the past forty years, its role has evolved, and is now made up of 42 distinguished members, each of whom has joined by invitation from their peers and whose role is to share their technical knowledge, lead and inspire future generations, and support meaningful transformation in the local industry. One element of that is the CWG Protégé Programme. This is a targeted three-year programme aimed at ensuring skills transfer, practical experience, knowledge sharing, mentorship and the nurturing of young talent in the South African wine industry. It aspires to be the benchmark for inclusivity and opportunity. The annual Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction serves as a platform for guild members to submit highly prized, rare bottlings and innovative expressions, exclusive to the auction. Funds raised support the Guild and its programmes and spotlight the quality of South Africa’s finest producers internationally.
For the first time, in late 2022, Justerini & Brooks took part in the auction, and, after tasting all the wines in South Africa and London, is delighted to have secured some of the top lots, from Lismore, Newton Johnson and David & Nadia – three producers we have long admired. The David & Nadia wines are physically in the UK and available for immediate delivery. Lismore and Newton Johnson will arrive in the spring.
