The 2021 Penfolds Collection has been released with all the usual fanfare and excitement.
For the majority of the wines it is the turn of the 2019 vintage, with the exception of St Henri 2018, which is always released a year later, and the great Penfolds Grange 2017. 2019, broadly speaking, was another hot year in South Australia, producing dramatic, richly-styled reds. The Penfolds team pose that it was an excellent Cabernet vintage, while the Shirazes have a more brooding, savoury tone compared to some of the more opulent, fruit-forward years. We were also mightily impressed this year with Yattarna, a fully top-end Chardonnay that seems to be gradually raising the qualitative bar year-after-year. The star of the show though is of course Grange 2017, which is only the 7th vintage ever to be comprised of 100% Shiraz, from the Barossa and McLaren Vale. With a proven ability to evolve with style and grace, Grange is a must for those wanting a cellar equipped with all the icon wines of the world.

Penfolds Grange 2017
This starts with a deeply spicy and brooding nose that packs plenty of (100% new) American oak, some smoked vanilla and ripe dark plums and berries. The palate has a youthful, astringent feel with sinewy oak tannin and deep plum and dark-berry flavors, carrying a big frame of fruit extract. Big, round berries strive towards boldness. A blend of Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. 100% shiraz. Drink over the next two decades.– 96 Points, James Suckling.
The wines are expected to arrive in November 2021. Please contact your account manager to place your order or follow the links below. Please note that an allocation process may need to take place.
