The Perfect Christmas Claret
26 November 2019

The fairy tale turrets of Pichon Longueville are perhaps the most recognisable architectural statements in the Medoc. They are straight out of the pages of Charles Perrault, and they also provide the inspiration and moniker for their outstanding second wine, Tourelles de Longueville. We have admired this sleeping beauty for many years. Produced predominantly from Merlot grown in the Sainte Anne vineyard, this Pauillac is a real Prince Charming: aristocratic, refined and very handsome.

Just like pantomime gags, Tourelles doesn’t change much from vintage to vintage – it is always dependable and downright delicious. The 2014 is another crowd-pleasing Pauillac bristling with pure cassis and hedgerow fruit – it is suave and generous, with a wonderful sense of balance and poise. As one would expect from one of the highest flying “super seconds”, the tannins are a thing of beauty, and thankfully, there’s no beastly price tag to worry about – it’s just £32.68 on the table. This superb Tourelles is guaranteed to push all the right buttons this Christmas!
