When Jacky Blot arrived in Montlouis in 1989, the appellation was barely known. Today, it can justifiably be said to stand shoulder to shoulder with neighbouring Vouvray. Throughout this rise, the wines that Jacky has produced at Domaine de la Taille aux Loups have acted as proof of just how good dry Montlouis Chenin Blanc can be.

With remarkable clarity of vision and courage in his convictions, Jacky decided early on that certain ideals were sacrosanct in the pursuit of the Loire’s finest dry Chenin Blanc: organic viticulture, hand harvesting, barrel fermentations using wild yeasts, no chaptalisation, the blocking of malo-lactic fermentations and patient elevage in cool cellars. None of this looksunusual thirty years on, but back in 1989, in this part of the world, it was a huge step. A revolution was under way….
