Vega Sicilia, one of Spain’s most celebrated estates, has released its new vintages and we urge our clients to secure a case while they can.
With Unico 2010, Valbuena 2015 and a Reserva Especial blend composed from the ’10, ’09, ’08 vintages, this represents three of the most critically acclaimed releases in recent times.

An unquestionably brilliant Unico from the much lauded 2010 vintage garners the magical three digits from Tim Atkin – and just a single point less from James Suckling. Valbuena receives a brace of 97-point scores, and Reserva Especial goes one better with a 97/98 combination. Demand for the Spanish icon shows no sign of abating, and with vintages like this to on offer, we fully expect demand to outstrip our supply.
Vega Sicilia Unico 2010
Vega Sicilia Único Reserva 2010 (14%) Perfection is as rare in wine as it is in most things in life, but this is a stunning Único, reflecting the quality of one of the greatest vintages of the last century. Blended with 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, as it was in 2009, it's still a very youthful wine right now, with closeknit tannins, thrilling acidity, layers of spices, fresh earth, tobacco, red and black fruits, some oak sweetness and a wonderfully refreshing, leafy undertone. Simply stunning. 2025-50 100 points, Tim Atkin.
This is still very tight and closed with so much depth and beauty. The linear line to this is very vertical and draws you down. It shows intense blackberry, dark-chocolate, hazelnut and walnut character. Full body. Chewy yet extremely polished. Precise. Shows decadence. So drinkable already, but better in 2022. 99 Points, James Suckling
Vega Sicilia Valbuena 2015
This is one of the best Valbuenas I've ever tasted, a still youthful cuvée of Tempranillo with 5% Merlot. Made grapes from Vega's north-facing vineyards in the western part of the Denominación de Origen, it's a refined, layered, subtly wooded red with some spice from partial American oak ageing, notes of fresh tobacco, raspberry and bramble fruit, very fine tannins and a core of acidity that's unusual in 2015. 2022-35 97 Points, Tim Atkin.
Valbuena 2015 The aromas to this are so complex and enticing with nutmeg, dark berries, chocolate and white pepper. Full body. Dense and layered with so much wonderful, complex and succulent character. It just makes you want to drink it. Drink or hold. 97 Points, James Suckling
Vega Sicilia Reserva Especial 2019 release.
A wine that takes ten years to make in the words of Gonzalo Iturriaga, this non-vintage cuvée is a blend of 2008, 2009 and 2010, which combines Tempranillo with 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. Like the regular Único release, it has the structure, acidity and concentration to last, with sweet spices, notes of dill and tobacco, more evident American oak and some understated freshness, backbone and minerality. 2023-40 98 Points, Tim Atkin
Love the complexity and intensity on the nose with cedar, tobacco, dried red pepper and dark fruit. Full body. Dense and very layered with chocolate-milk, vanilla and spice undertones to the ripe fruit. Goes on for minutes. A rich and decadent wine. A blend of 2008, 2009 and 2010. Drink now, but even better in 2022 and onwards. 97 Points, James Suckling
