A Barolo blend with top cru pedigree, the latest incarnation of the Justerini & Brooks Barolo is 2015. Smooth and sun-kissed, with a cooling chalky character that speaks of Serralunga, this is a seamlessly complete, complex Barolo that is starting to drink beautifully.
Made from first rate vineyards by one of Piedmont’s most exciting prospects, Figli Luigi Oddero, this is a thoroughbred Barolo. The origins of this traditional-style blend lie in Serralunga (two thirds of it coming from the fine Baudana and Broglio crus combined), with the remaining third comprising fruit from the great Rocche Rivera vineyard of Castiglione. In Nebbiolo terms raw materials don’t come much better than this. Aged for 18 months in large used oak Slavonian Botti and finished in tank for 3 months prior to bottling, this is sumptuous and velvety, whilst showing a fine backbone and surprising depth. Aromatic notes of plum, dried rose petal, wild strawberries and spices introduce a palate that is full-bodied, deep, but somehow so moreish; a chalky, saltiness cleansing the finish after the rich, orange rind, spice and berry fruit-soaked mid palate. A pure joy to drink now, particularly when paired with roasted meats, hearty dishes, or hard cheeses.
