2014 may not have been a walk in the park in Baden, but the Huber team, led by the young but talented Julian Huber, have produced a tremendous set of vivid, balanced wines that have bittersweet racy cores and plenty of future potential. There's definitely an eye on Burgundy at this estate, as they fine tune these brilliant Pinots, staying true to the exceptional legacy of Julian's father Bernhard Huber, while also bringing some new ideas to the table. A little less oak, slightly earlier picking, a little whole bunch - all factors that combine to produce vital, vivid and racy Pinot that deserves a place in any Pinot lover's cellar.
Described by World of Fine Wine as "one of the most important wine producers in Germany of the past 20 years," the Huber's small, family owned estate sits to the East of Baden in the village of Malterdingen. Famed in particular for their world class Pinot Noir, they ascribes the fact their wines are often mistaken for Burgundy to the cool, often wet Malterdingen weather and its limestone soils, very similar to those found in the Cote d'Or.
