Young Winemakers of the Year 2020
17 September 2020

We were delighted to see David and Nadia Sadie awarded “Young Winemakers of the Year” in Tim Atkin’s South Africa 2020 report published last week. With some of the top scoring whites in the report, and high praise from prominent South African critic Christian Eedes, it’s clear that David & Nadia have produced one of the Cape’s standout 2019 collections.

Despite low yields, 2019 is a fresh and understated vintage in South Africa, perfectly suited to David & Nadia’s precise, mouthwatering style. Thanks to the warm Swartland climate, the wines are blessed with beautiful fruit flavours as ever, but the 2019s are altogether finer and more mineral than we have seen in recent years. In Aristargos, the inclusion of a small proportion of Verdelho for the first time adds another level of freshness and salty intensity to this ever-popular white blend. The Chenin Blanc is once again the perfect all-rounder. A blend of seven vineyards, predominantly granite based with some shale and schist from the east, clay-rich soils from the north and iron-rich soils from the west of the Swartland, it is certified with the Cape Heritage seal and forms part of the Old Vine Project – a true Swartland wine, it represents the very best of the region.
