Tasting Note:
Cask #0002, just 108 bottles produced. 58.6% From one European oak cask.
A seriously sophisticated ex-fortified wine cask malt; one to savour. Polished mahogany in colour, on the nose it is prickly, rather closed and dry. Dried fruits; figs, raisins, dates. Candied peel dipped in chocolate, sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce, evolving as polished leather or coffee dregs with crystalline sugar. A drop of water increases these scents, teasing out bitter espresso, roasted coffee bean, fine mint chocolate and rum and raisin ice cream. Heavy bodied and full, this is immediately rich and sweet. Toasted walnuts, pecans and Brazil nuts dipped in very dark, bitter chocolate. Very intense but relaxed with water, it becomes sweeter and more woody, with hints of coffee and dry sherry. Brandy snap baskets. The finish is warm, dry, woody and spicy, with a lingering aftertaste of coffee dregs.
