Casks of Distinction is a unique programme in which we can offer special access to own individual casks of rare and exceptional Scotch Whisky from Diageo’s unrivalled stocks. Only a small number of fully mature casks are selected for the programme each year based on their superlative quality, reflecting the craft and expertise of master whisky makers.

Introducing, ‘The Twelve’ by Casks of Distinction, an unparalleled collection of Scotch whiskies, representing the pinnacle of whisky connoisseurship.

A carefully curated selection of twelve of the rarest and most exceptional casks known to our master whisky makers, are unveiled as part of a global showcase.

Each of the twelve exclusive Scotch whisky casks are meticulously chosen for its character, offering individuals the opportunity to become part of a storied community of collectors and connoisseurs. Each represents a confluence of prestige and heritage, ideal for your personal collection.

SELECTING A CASKS OF DISTINCTION

Once a year, at the liquid library in the Diageo Archives in Scotland, the Casks of Distinction selection team gathers. The group of master whisky makers discuss which casks, out of the millions at their command, should be considered to become a Cask of Distinction.

The experts employ their collective understanding to identify the most exceptional of the casks that are put forward for their evaluation. Through repeated tastings, each cask is held to the utmost scrutiny by the master whisky makers in their analysis of the specific nuances and character of each whisky. Requiring more than 4,200 hours, the selection of the annual Cask List calls for approval from each of the master whisky makers on the panel. Only fully mature, exceptional quality casks are considered, most are at least 25-years-old.

No cask reaches the list without unanimous agreement by all of the experts. As a result, the Cask List is a unique assembly of incomparable casks.

Our team includes experts from across our maturing Scotch portfolio. These esteemed individuals bring decades of experience and a deep passion to this very special role.

Once the casks have been selected, they are transported to their new home in Royal Deeside at Royal Lochnagar. Nestled between the Scottish royal residence and the River Dee, Casks of Distinction sleep peacefully awaiting their new owners.

After bottling, the whisky is carefully stored in our dedicated storage service, Cellarers Wines Limited. Cellarers stores cases and bottles with the utmost care, ensuring optimal conditions, detailed labeling, careful shipping and more.
