Château Lafaurie Peyraguey, 1er Cru Classé, Sauternes, 2025
Lafaurie-Peyraguey 2025 (100% Sémillon) is a tale of two Sauternes. On the nose this is steely and tense with salted lemons, preserved fruit, blood orange and honey. The palate is much more hedonistic, with maple syrup and orange blossom, acacia honey, blow-torched mandarins, caramel and apricot. The texture is glossy and viscous, unctuous and impressively weighted for a wine with a light touch.
critic reviews
The 2025 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is the only cuvée this year, there is no second wine. This was cropped at 12 hl/ha between September 16 and October 9 via three tries, one just to clean the vineyard, and comprises 100% Sémillon with 175 g/l of residual sugar. It has a very nuanced bouquet that opens nicely with aeration, dried peach, pear and light waxy scents, a touch of saffron in the background. The palate is beautiful, very well balanced with pure botrytised fruit, a little almond and chamomile towards the finish with very well integrated oak. This is a really classy Sauternes that has a long future ahead.
Rich and deeply concentrated, creme caramel, dried apricot, juicy preserved pear, offers breadth through the palate, sweet and concentrated on the finish.
