Morey St Denis, En La Rue de Vergy, Blanc, 2018
Intensely savoury and mineral, even by this wine's own standards. A hint of confit lemon followed by crystal clear, crushed stone and chalk notes glistening through the gently buttery texture. Full of interest and beautifully composed. Fermented and aged in foudres and barriques, 20 percent new oak. A chardonnay from Morey St Denis is a rare thing, the vast majority of the commune being planted with Pinot Noir, but it can be exceptional, as this regularly is. A vineyard located just above Bonnes Mares, En la Rue de Vergy is planted on poor, rocky limestone soils.
critic reviews
The 2019 Morey Saint-Denis En La Rue Vergy Blanc has a well defined nose of honeysuckle and peach skin. Well balanced on the palate, it has a fine bead of acidity, fresh and long, with a detailed finish. Delightful, if not long-term.
