Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru, 2023
At our tasting the De Montille Clos Vougeot was all about earth and sweet mineral notes rather than fruit. Cool and earthy, with sparks of wild hedgerow fruit and a firm core of powerful tannins. There's freshness here by way of structure, and while it isn’t showy, the overall balance here is excellent. A savoury, restrained very successful Clos Vougeot. Aged in 45% new oak and fermented with 30 percent whole bunches, this comes from a single parcel of vines on the Northern side of the vineyard, half way up from the road.
critic reviews
The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru includes one-third whole cluster. This is expressive on the nose, revealing red plum, cranberry and raspberry fruit, hints of orange rind and a touch of bergamot tea. The palate is medium-bodied with finely knit tannins. There is more structure here compared to its peers, with impressive grip and a spicy finish that lingers. Very fine.
