Pommard, Les Rugiens du Bas, 1er Cru, 2018
A complex lifted Pommard, floral cherry blossom high notes underlaid by crunchy salt-flecked red berry and cherry fruit with a refreshing blood orange touch. Ample, satisfying and full of fruit that is well covered by binding tannins. From the iron-rich "Bas" part of the vineyard considered the prime part of Rugiens. The vines are 55 years old. Fermented with two thirds whole bunches and aged in 40% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2018 Pommard Les Rugiens-Bas 1er Cru, which includes two-thirds whole clusters, has a well-defined and complex bouquet, a cousin of the Pezerolles in some ways. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, displaying a little more matière and slightly creamier in texture than the Les Pezerolles, leading to a precise, persistent, slightly more opulent finish. Very fine indeed.
