Vosne-Romanée, Aux Reignots, 1er Cru, 2023
A noble nose that’s moved beyond fruit to some sort of Pinot Noir essence – briar and berry and the land. And then on the palate, wonderful vibrancy, with crystalline fruit, salt and near invisible, melting tannins. This is electrifying. Such energy and life. Really takes things up a notch. Tops. Sadly, just a barrel and a half is made.

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru comes from their parcel planted north to south, unlike the other growers (except those belonging to DRC). This has a complex, mineral-driven bouquet with touches of potpourri that, with aeration, inflect the red berry fruit with a little allspice and bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation. There is a sense of intensity allied with paradoxical weightlessness and stunning delineation on the very sustained and elegant finish. This is fabulous and way above the 2022 in quality.
