Puligny-Montrachet, Champ Canet, 1er Cru, 2023
A truly complex combination of fruit and stones, built around a gorgeous texture with fruit that ranges from fine salty peaches to Mediterranean fruits to juicy white conference pears. A totally seductive Champs Canet with freshness but no angles or firmness and no shortage of bite, intensity or energy. A great Puligny vineyard situated mid-slope, above Combettes and next door to Meursault Perrières, planted on a well-balanced mix of clay and limestone soils. The vines average 50 years old.
critic reviews
The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru showed more reduction on the nose, yet there is clearly a lot of intensity here. It's slightly more resinous than its peers, containing touches of melted candle wax and lanolin. The palate is well balanced and poised, with a keen silver thread of acidity and real energy building toward an assertive and complex finish. It is far superior to the 2022 when I tasted it last year. This is superb.
