Corton, Les Combes, Grand Cru, 2018
So different from the voluptuous charm of the Chapitre. This is all about tension rather than breadth. Great energy, precision and length of flavour. Gripping and edgy but with a soft touch to the tannins. High detail red cherry, hedgerow berry and sloe fruit with a background note of sweet kirsch. Fine-tuned Corton of great verve and persistence. A 0.47 hectares parcel of 35-year-old vines planted in the Les Combe lieu-dit, a south-west facing site planted on red clay soils.
critic reviews
The 2018 Corton Les Combes Grand Cru has the same delightful bouquet that I noted last year, featuring morello cherry and blood orange aromas and wonderful delineation. The palate has firmed up a bit since last year, displaying more spine and grip, with a slightly masculine finish. Classic in style, this will give up to 20 years of drinking pleasure.
