Chambolle Musigny, Les Veroilles, 1er Cru
Ghislaine Barthod

Chambolle Musigny, Les Veroilles, 1er Cru, 2020

justerini & brooks tasting note

An irony blood orange and dark fruit nose, a very different profile to the other Chambolles in this cellar, more compact and velvety with racy acids encircling the dense but svelte fruit. Brooding flavours of bramble, sloe, orange zest and mulled spices. This is one of Chambolle’s higher Crus sitting adjacent to Bonnes-Mares. It also has denser soils than its neighbouring Chambolle vineyards, often producing very intense, mineral but powerful and compact wines, rather like Bonnes Mares in style.

critic reviews

95/100William Kelley,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Veroilles unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet red berries, plums and mulberries mingled with hints of licorice, spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, it's deep, layered and concentrated, with a rich core of fruit, powdery tannins and a long, saline finish. As ever, this cuvee will require some patience.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Véroilles 1er Cru has the richest bouquet with traces of cassis and raspberry fruit, intermixed with violet petals. This is showy and generous. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent sweet and fleshy candied red fruit, almost like a sorbet-fresh Grenache, but it is most definitly Pinot with a beautiful silky finish.
