Kondringer, Alte Burg, Spätburgunder, Grosses Gewächs, 2023

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Complex bullace, fresh flowers and rocky spice notes mingle with dried lavender and rosemary, very Pinot in profile, juicy and delightful – the layers of sweet fruit and generous mid-palate impact makes this feel quite irresistible already. From vines planted 20 years ago to the south of Malterdingen on similar iron and limestone soils to Bienenberg, the main difference is that the Alte Burg is more wind exposed, producing thicker skins, and there is a uniformity of clones. First bottled as a standalone GG in 2018. Aged for around 18 months in 30% new French oak barrique.

critic reviews

93+/100Stephan Reinhardt,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Bottled in May this year, the 2023 Alte Burg Kondringen Spatburgunder GG opens a little reductive and saline on the nose that reveals a bouquet of concentrated and sweet dark cherry and lingonberry intertwined with notes of dried (cigar) leaves, graphite, earth, roasted coffee beans and mocha. Quite aromatic on the nose and silky, fresh and tightly structured yet refined on the palate, this is a concentrated yet elegant, tensioned, very saline and lingering Pinot with fine but crunchy and crumbly tannins. It really makes you salivate. This is a robust rather than refined Pinot with character. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2025.
