Piesporter Goldtropfchen, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2016
Complex and spicy and serious, as noble golden fruit leaps from the glass. The richest and the deepest of the GGs today with white pepper and salt, smoky slate, golden apples, cantaloupe melon and a hint of guava. Long and intense with compact acidity and plenty of stuffing, this will provide enormous early-drinking pleasure.
critic reviews
Grapefruit, white peach and cassis dominate on the nose as well as on a juicy palate that comes as close to lushness as any in this year’s lineup of Schloss Lieser Grosse Gewächse, while remaining brightly citric and vividly suggesting stone suffusion. Incisive hints of fresh ginger along with suggestions of ash and crushed stone lend invigoration and intrigue to a vibrant finish that unexpectedly unleashes a torrent of bright grapefruit and lime. Here is another of those head-scratching Schloss Lieser 2016s in that analytically its acidity is not at all high.
