Im Sonnenschein, Weisserburgunder, Grosses Gewächs, 2017
A selection from within the In Sonnenshein vineyard, subtle but very layered and complex as yellow fruit and green apricot meet chalk and wisps of smoky minerality. This should start really singing from 2020 onwards as the silky fruit opens and becomes even more fluid and refined. Gentle, subtle and captivating Weisserburgunder to lay down.
critic reviews
Scents of seed-tinged apple, fennel seed and parsnip anticipate the most prominent flavors as well as the pronounced piquancy featured on a subtly oily and expansive palate. There is a formidable impression of chalk suffusion allied to palpable extract-richness, albeit without the active, diverse sense of mineral interaction exhibited by the corresponding Mandelberg, or that wine’s mouthwateringly carnal savor. The bittersweet finish is seriously sustained and multilayered, though it harbors a bit of heat.
