Zellerweg am Schwarzen Herrgott, Spätburgunder, Grosses Gewächs, 2024
The inaugural vintage of what immediately feels like a fascinating addition to the range. Juicy and vibrant, with a more mineral, zippy profile than the other GGs and a distinctly cool-climate focus. There is real energy here, the fruit carried by freshness rather than weight. The first release has particular significance for Oliver and Carolin. This is an old vineyard that they had previously leased to a friend; following his death, the parcel returned to the estate, making the 2024 an emotional first bottling. Schwarzer Herrgott already produces one of their most distinctive Rieslings, and this first Spätburgunder suggests the site is up to equally compelling Pinot Noir.
critic reviews
The 2024 Spätburgunder Mölsheimer Zellerweg Am Schwarzen Herrgott Grosses Gewächs Hommage à Felix Peters was picked on limestone. The pure, translucent note of red cherry, with just a whisper of smoke, immediately announces poise and slenderness. The palate follows through with exquisite purity of translucent, dark cherry and more of that subtle smokiness, all backed by exquisite freshness. Everything joins up, all is connected: fine tannins, beautiful purity, supple persistence and still a lovely little sensation of crunch. Gorgeous layers shimmer like a jewel, with so many facets catching the light. (Bone-dry)
