Barolo, Carobric [Library Release 2026], 1998
A wine of two communes, Carobric is a name created from three vineyards: Cannubi of Barolo, Rocche of Castiglione and Bric del Fiasc of Castiglione. Very strong aromas as diverse as liquorice and poached pear. The palate has a meaty consistency supporting the flavours of spiced apple, cinnamon, chocolate and fleshy berry.
critic reviews
The 1998 Carobric, on the other hand, captures a beautiful middle ground. It is not as ripe as either the 1997 or 2000, nor as structured as 1996, 1999 or 2001, yet it offers highly attractive nuances of super-ripe fruit, chocolate and toasted oak flavors, with a deeply brooding personality, great length and beautifully well-integrated tannins. 1998 remains one of my favorite Scavino vintages for current drinking.
The 1998 Barolo Caro Bric is an elegant, stylish. Aromas of black cherry liqueur, smoke, minerals, and new saddle leather are followed by a medium-bodied wine with a distinctive, restrained style.
