Barolo, 2021
Always a nicely balanced Barolo Classico with an emphasis on drinkability. The 2021 offers more depth and cut than the 2020, offering a complex mix of succulent red fruits, dried herbs, licorice-spice and plum. Elisa added that they now do around 60 micro-vinifications a year across the whole stable, many of which come together to form the Barolo Classico. It is sourced from eight different vineyards in La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga and Monforte d’Alba. Aged in a combination of formats for just shy of two years.
critic reviews
To be released in January 2025, the Paolo Scavino 2021 Barolo is bright and vivid, showing the focus and character of the vintage. This sample is still quite tight, and the tannins are firmly knit. However, the tannins are more elegant and silkier in the 2021 compared to 2020. I recommend giving this wine more time in bottle to allow it to fully flesh out.
The 2021 Barolo is a terrific entry-level offering from Scavino. Crushed flowers, spice and dried herbs give this mid-weight, juicy Barolo striking aromatic presence. Soft and silky on the palate, with racy, forward fruit, the 2021 is a delight. Drink it over the next handful of years.
