Barbaresco, Albesani Borghese, 2021
Ripe and expressive and immediately enticing – sweetly fruited, succulent and complex, with a high-toned, detailed feel – likely the best we’ve ever tasted here. Vigna Borghese is a sub-plot in front of the Busso cellar, home to the estate’s oldest vines, averaging fifty years old. A southwest facing vineyard at 280 metres elevation planted on sandy white limestone soils. Aged in 25 hl casks for 24-26 months.
critic reviews
The Piero Busso 2021 Barbaresco Albesani Vigna Borgese is a dense and austere expression marked by darker fruit tones, pronounced depth and firmly structured tannins that immediately set it apart. The palate shows power paired with finesse, delivering ripe fruit wrapped in a more contracted and serious frame that will need time to fully reveal its potential. Sourced from vines dating back to 1948 rooted in limestone-rich clay soils without sand, this vineyard of the heart is fermented in wooden vats and aged in large Slavonian and Central European oak casks, underscoring its long-term ambition.
