Barolo, Brunate, 2011
More austere and closed even than the La Serra at the moment but there is great precision and most important of all your mouth is left full of sweetness to balance out the gripping tannins. A serious and extremely layered wine, superbly balanced flavours of sweet dark and red berries, earth and sweet spices. A statuesque wine of real dimension. Less than 3000 bottles were produced. One of the great crus of Barolo, situated high up in the La Morra commune just underneath La Serra, with an east / south east exposure. These complex, perfumed wines can be might and unforthcoming in there youth but age fabulously well.
critic reviews
The 2011 Barolo Brunate is one of the most tannic and vertical wines in the range, both attributes it has shown every time I tasted it prior to bottling. A powerful, brooding Barolo, the Brunate hits the palate with notable density and structure. Today, the flavors are understandably quite primary, but that just bodes well for the future. Voerzio's Brunate is one of the most impressive wines of the year.
