Tanbark Hill, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 2022
The vineyard that produces Tanbark Hill is tucked just around the corner from the main Togni plot at a similar altitude. It tends to produce a marginally earlier drinking wine, on account of the slightly deeper, richer soils. The vivacious Tanbark 2022 opens with notes of sage, spiced plums and sweet cherries. This griotte character flows throughout the velvety mid-palate with layers of bright and engaging fruit supported by supple tannins. Already charming and eminently drinkable, there’s enough concentration and high-quality tannin to suggest a long drinking window.

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next decade. Ripe red cherry, plum, sweet spice, mint and rose petal are pushed forward. Ripe tannins wrap it all together. This is an especially succulent style for Togni, but it works.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Tanbark Hill Vineyard comes from blocks planted on slightly richer soils that have traditionally yielded more forward wines. Just about 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this vintage is a bit more robust than prior vintages, with the concentration and tannins to carry it at least 20 years. Sage and cedar accent blueberries on the nose, while the velvety-textured palate is vibrant and fresh, with a cascade of raspberries and cherries on the lingering finish.
