Bordeaux 2025: Château Talbot and Château Angelus
Jean-Michel Laporte’s 2025 Talbot is impressive stuff. Since his arrival from La Conseillante, he has added a touch of polish to this much-loved St Julien. Still very much a classical style, there’s a bit more up-front fruit, a more generous mid-palate and more sumptuous tannins. The overall result is very pleasing – we think this is the most enjoyable and complete wine of Jean-Michel’s tenure. As Neal Martin says, “if you seek a classic Saint-Julien and, it must be said, often at a reasonable price, then look no further.”
Over in St Emilion, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal has released her mightily impressive Angelus 2025. This is a grand wine, not in the bombastic sense, rather it is utterly seductive and refined, an immaculate Angelus that ranks amongst the most luxuriant and sophisticated wines of the vintage.
