New Release – André Perret 2023s: “Unquestionably in the top handful of Condrieu in the vintage.” – Jeb Dunnuck
André Perret has long been our favourite Condrieu producer. Blessed with propitious parcels in some of the appellation’s finest terroirs, Perret is a reference point for clear-cut, graceful Condrieus that, though naturally silky and expressive, are pepped by citrus, mineral-laden fine spice, and a sense of elemental salinity.
The 2023s have immense texture and finesse, allied to variously complex, teasing, earth-bound notes and full fruited charm. They deliver from the beginning yet have the concentration to support long term ageing if desired. On average they are about a degree lower in alcohol than the 2022s – clocking in at a moderate 13% across the range.
At just £130 for a case of St Joseph Blanc, or £250 per case for Perret’s single vineyard Condrieu: Chery and Clos Chanson (Chanson representing the more luxurious, open-knit iteration next to the more linear Chery), these are very fair prices for wines that sit in the top handful of their storied appellations. Furthermore, they are offered at a reduced price on last year.
While we wanted to draw attention to these three glorious whites, the rest of the Perret range, including the delicious classic Condrieu and St Joseph reds, are of course all available to order. The reds will ship in the autumn.

The 2023 Saint Joseph Blanc is a blend dominated by Marsanne with a smaller portion of Roussanne, brought up for 10 months in 10-15% new barrels. It showed beautifully, with a rich, honeyed apple, quince, and crushed stone-like minerality. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a layered, elegant mouthfeel and good acidity. While normally an equal split between varieties, the Roussanne didn't fare as well in this vintage, leading to more Marsanne in the blend. It should have 7-8 years of prime drinking, although I see no need to delay gratification either. – 94pts, Jeb Dunnuck
The single vineyard 2023 Condrieu Clos Chanson brings a bigger, richer style while staying pure, focused, and incredibly elegant. Honeyed white flowers, crushed stone, toast, and tropical notes all shine here, and this beauty is full-bodied, round, lush, and layered on the palate. It's unquestionably in the top handful of Condrieu in the vintage. Drink bottles over the coming decade. Drink 2025-2035. – 97pts, Jeb Dunnuck
Compared to the Clos Chanson, the 2023 Condrieu Chery brings a sweeter, more opulent profile yet holds onto a gorgeous sense of purity. Honeyed orange, toasted bread, white flowers, and subtle tropical notes define the aromatics, and it brings a liquid rock-like sense of chalkiness and minerality on the palate. Medium to full-bodied, focused, elegant, and beautifully balanced, you can't go wrong here, and it, too, is perfect for drinking over the coming decade. Drink 2025-3035. – 97pts, Jeb Dunnuck
