New Release: David & Nadia 2024s

This year’s release marks our ninth vintage with David & Nadia. In that time, we have seen this project go from strength to strength, witnessing first hand the enormous commitment and consideration that goes into every aspect of production. No stone is left unturned in the pursuit of honest Swartland representation, at the highest level.

The David & Nadia wines as a fundamental philosophy do not shout. They are intentionally composed, and more textured, nuanced models of long-term aspiration than immediate fruit-driven hits. The core four wines (Chenin Blanc, Grenache, Aristargos and Elpidios) are textured and silky – never more so than in the relatively concentrated 2024 vintage – but behind that tender mouthfeel sit layers of spice, salts and savoury, herbal, stony, almost chalky notes; hallmarks unique to the Cape’s finest producers. They can be hugely satisfying in youth, with a good decant, but even at this level will impress over many years in bottle.

As intellectually rewarding, long-term propositions, David & Nadia’s acclaimed single vineyard Chenins are not only rarer than ever in 2024: a consequence of intense winds that clipped yields at flowering and stringent selections post-heatwaves, but for laying down and ageing along the lines of a top white Burgundy or Northern Rhone white. We recommend five years before broaching, and they will continue to improve over ten. Unusually, all four single vineyards form important components of the core Chenin Blanc label; a blend that consequently sits amongst South Africa’s very best.
