Our three top Fine & Rare picks from the Spring Sale

A trio not to be missed

There are plenty of gems to sift through in this Spring sale, but if you are looking at the top end of the spectrum - three very different wines catch the eye for their value and brilliance. Whilst these are wines for the cellar, broaching the Burgundy and Rhône now would not be a crime!

From Piedmont legend Bruno Giacosa the Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto from the great 2019 vintage looks incredibly well-priced. Though offering typical “Giacosa” high-toned aromas and intricately-woven red fruit, its deceptively discrete, toned power will necessitate a few years in the cellar.

Over in the Rhône, the organic Clusel-Roch estate make some of Côte Rôtie’s most gentle and elegant wines. Whilst the 2020 vintage is powerful and can be laid down happily for the next five years, the house style will allow for early drinking if the temptation becomes too great!

And last but not least, an under-appreciated gem from the region on everyone’s lips: Burgundy’s Morey St Denis often gets overlooked in favour of the more famous Vosnes and Chambolles of this world, but the village is home to some great vineyards and a plethora of wine-making talent; one of whom is one of the Côte d’Or’s new stars, Christophe Perrot-Minot. Christophe’s La Riotte 2018 is a thrilling Burgundy offering agile, slender-bodied but high-impact flavours, with strong mineral notes and ripe dark berry fruits reverberating throughout the finish.
