Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rose 2012
A 30% reduction on the 2011 release price
We are delighted to offer the superb 2012 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Rosé. The 2012 vintage in Champagne is the gift that just keeps giving - a veritable smorgasbord of phenomenal wines that showcase huge intensity, freshness and ageing potential. The latest iteration of Comtes Rosé is a chip off the old block, combining power and gravitas with incredible acidity and a deft touch. It is an unabashed rosé Champagne, brimming with ripe red fruit, a deep colour and considerable weight. This is certainly not a Blanc dressed as a Rosé, it is an emphatic Rosé, in all the best ways. Just the right side of vinous, it delivers detailed, lacy, mineral and spice notes, but is laden with strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit, beautifully overlaid with vanilla, cinnamon, pastry and crème patisserie. Now 13 years on from the harvest, this is one of the last releases from 2012, and what a climax it delivers.
Having returned to family hands in 2006, Taittinger continues to go from strength to strength. Their tête de cuvée rose is adored by those in the know for its hallmark steely finesse, provided by their phenomenal Chardonnay blended with rich and luxuriant red berry fruit from Pinot Noir. All the grapes are drawn from their best Grand Cru vineyards in the Côtes des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. A blend of 30% chardonnay and 70% pinot noir, of which 14% is still red wine; a sizeable proportion which imparts a vibrant colour and a profound grippy red fruit and spice character that reverberates long after the wine has gone. I completely agree with Antonio Galloni: I too, would be thrilled to own this.
“Evoking a superb bouquet, the remarkable 2012 Brut Comtes de Champagne Rosé reveals aromas of mint, strawberries, ripe red berries, tangerine, plums, orange rind and blood orange. Full-bodied, vinous and concentrated, it has a delicately, perfectly balanced phenolic mid-palate framed by a pinpoint mousse of striking finesse and delicacy, concluding with a vibrant, vertical finish enhanced by gastronomic bitterness. A blend of 70% Pinot Noir, including 14% as red wine, and 30% Chardonnay, disgorged with a dosage of nine grams per liter, this is one of the most elegant and refined Comtes de Champagne Rosé releases from Taittinger.” 97 Points, Yohan Castaing, The Wine Advocate (Tasted Oct 2024) Drink 2024-2054
“The 2012 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is magnificent. Rich and explosive in the glass, the 2012 Comtes Rosé dazzles from start to finish. I like it even more today than I liked it last year! A rush of red cherry fruit, kirsch, blood orange, cinnamon and rose petal soars out of the glass. Vertical structure and tons of energy are the signatures. I would be thrilled to own this.”
