DOMINUS DECLARATION
Christian Moueix’s Dominus Estate is a model of sustainability. In 2021, it received a CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) certification for organic practices. Dry-farming is non-negotiable, however, it can be perilous. No wine was made in the searing 2022 vintage. But when conditions are more favourable, this approach, which encourages deep root growth results in fabulous wines full of complexity, power and charm. The 2023 is amongst the finest examples to date, already recording a perfect score from Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, and if that were not enough, the price is 28% lower than the last release, the 2021.
“The 2023 Dominus is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. Opaque purple-black in color, it slowly unfurls to reveal a powerful core of blackcurrant jelly, ripe black plums, and fresh blueberries, followed by hints of menthol, crushed rocks, dried sage, black truffles, and black olives. The full-bodied palate is both generous and energetic, displaying an impressive array of savory and earthy nuances among the dense black fruit layers and a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and beautiful tension, finishing with epic length.”

“The 2023 Napanook is composed of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it strides confidently out of the glass with bold notes of black cherries, warm cassis, and tilled soil, giving way to hints of wild sage, graphite, black pepper, and underbrush. Full-bodied, the palate delivers a solid backbone of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness to back up the muscular black fruit layers, finishing long and earthy.”

“The 2023 Othello is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it springs from the glass with vibrant notes of red currants and fresh blackberries, giving way to hints of bay leaves, pencil lead, and mossy tree bark. The full-bodied palate is bursting with bold red and black berry flavors, framed by a racy line and plush tannins, finishing long and savory. Delicious. “
