The Essence of Chassagne - Jean Noel Gagnard Remaining 2024s

Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard stands as one of the most faithful interpreters of Chassagne’s terroir.

Continuing our focus on great white Burgundy from the 2024 vintage, we’re pleased to offer the final remaining cases of both Les Chenevottes (£380 IB per 675cl) and Les Caillerets (£745 IB per 675cl) from Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard.

These low-intervention wines beautifully articulate their sites. Les Chenevottes comes from a tiny 0.49-hectare plot close to Puligny; its style is taut and mineral-driven. Les Caillerets, one of Chassagne’s finest Premier Crus, lies in the heart of the appellation. Powerful yet refined, with a subtle touch of reduction that imparts a delicate struck-match character, complemented by intense, crystalline fruit. The focus is on texture and volume, with an emphasis on depth rather than strict linearity. While Caroline Lestimé has been crafting the JN Gagnard Chassagnes for over 30 years, recent vintages mark an refreshed mindset, aided by a new winery and the adoption of Diam closures, ensuring exceptional consistency and virtually eliminating the risk of oxidation or cork taint.

If you appreciate traditionally leaning classic white Burgundy, either (or both) of these should be of interest to you in a vintage like 2024.

Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Chenevottes, 1er Cru, Jean Noel Gagnard 2024

A much more stone fruit dominated nose (than Masures) sees apricot, peach pit and blanched almonds, then on the palate, more of the same stone fruit presence, joined by lifting quince and a white flower note. Plenty of plump, bold Chassagne fruit, with a keen line of acidity below. Bottled in early August, and ready for immediate enjoyment. Since 2023, the Gagnard wines have been bottled under Diam to help preserve freshness.

Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Caillerets, 1er Cru, Jean Noel Gagnard, 2024

Altogether richer and riper than the prior wines, with a greater sense of volume and depth. Powerful and broad shouldered, this is a Caillerets of real presence with notes of ripe citrus and pear, crushed stone, and flat peach. It’s more open than it often is at this stage yet also has an intense finish. Since 2023, the Gagnard wines have been bottled under Diam to help preserve freshness.
