(Welcoming) Weingut Wittmann’s 2024 Rieslings – The Perfect Foil for Oysters

An auspicious new addition to the Justerinis portfolio, we are delighted to offer the wines of leading Rheinhessen estate Weingut Wittmann for the first time. These lip-smacking wines have been on our radar for a long time. Philipp Wittmann and team craft precise, pure and energetic bone-dry Rieslings from limestone soils, ageing the wines in traditional cask for fine texture without any oak flavours. Stylistically, the oyster-shell saltiness and citrussy finesse of the dancing 2024s makes them both thrilling in isolation and perfect for festive foods.

The Wittmann Grosses Gewachs (GGs) are amongst the best in Germany. However, a huge part of Wittmann’s success is the incredible quality to price ratio of the entry-level Rieslings, which are enjoyable straight out of the gate.

Re-tasting them in London recently, there was palpable excitement in the room! Crystalline, juicy and salty, the Estate Trocken is a joyful, clear-cut, briny Riesling that would make the perfect accompaniment to ice-cold oysters and lemon. The Westhofener 1G is effectively a declassified GG, the fruit all coming from the prestigious Morstein Grand Cru in 2024, made in exactly the same way as the estate’s roster of prestigious GGs. It too is a joy to drink already, with a little extra kick of chalkiness and a slightly deeper citrus-yellow fruited edge. It will pair seamlessly with a range of fresh salads, seafood, fish and poultry dishes.

Westhofener, Riesling Trocken, 1G, Wittmann, 2024, 6x75cl - £27.19 per bottle inc. VAT (£120 p/6 IB)

“Wittmann's 2024 Westhofener Riesling 1G is clear, deep, fresh and chalky on the coolish yet intense and herbal/nutty nose that shows white and yellow peach and apricot aromas as well as grapefruit nuances. Exclusively sourced in the Morstein (and predominantly in GG plots), this is a generous yet refined and elegant, savory and saline-finishing Westhofen Riesling with playful acidity, fine tannin grip and lemon bitterness on the tight and still young finish. It's characterful. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2025.”

92+ Points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate.

Estate, Riesling Trocken, Wittmann, 2024, 6x75cl - £15.05 per bottle inc. VAT (£60 p/6 IB)

“Predominantly sourced in Westhofen, the Wittmann 2024 Riesling trocken Estate is deep, pure, fresh and chalky/saline on the stimulating and characterful Wonnegau nose that reveals perfectly ripe and intense fruit. Aged in 3,000-liter oak vats and in stainless steel, this is a round, intense and crystalline, citric and finely tannic dry Riesling classic from a classic vintage. 11.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in Westhofen, August 2025.”

92 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate.
