Originally founded to distill malt whisky by his father near Alloa in 1806,Cambus was re-founded in 1836 by Robert Mowbray. This forward thinking family invested in production technology and the quality of its grain was soon renowned. Cambus was now one of the most extensive grain whisky distilleries, covering eight acres when visited by Alfred Barnard in 1887. The nose is lively with fruity top notes of red apple, pineapple and gooseberry above strawberry chewy sweets, milk chocolate and toffee. The palate is light and drying with pine notes building in sweetness with salted caramel, pear drops and plum characteristics. The finish is short yet warm and gentle.
