Ségla du Château Rauzan Ségla, Margaux, 2015

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Produced from 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Segla is an outstanding example from this high flying second growth. Margaux was arguably the appellation of the vintage, producing sumptuous, graceful wines with power and charm in equal measure. We love the sleek fruit and the purity here. Waves of crème de mûre and floral cassis delight the palate. There’s a real generosity to the fruit; a lavish, creamy texture, which coats the mouth. Although delightful and exceptionally moreish right now, this has so much fruit and such impeccably crafted tannins, we’re sure this will age gracefully for a decade or more.

critic reviews

91/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2015 Ségla has a more tertiary nose, with brambly red fruit, freshly rolled tobacco and light graphite scents. This veers toward Pauillac in style. The palate is silky smooth, with fine-boned tannins. It's simple, fleshy and I appreciate the pepperiness on the aftertaste here. This was tasted blind at the 2015 Bordeaux Ten-Year-On tasting.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2015 Segla bursts with notes of black cherries, redcurrant jelly, and juicy blackberries, plus hints of dried mint and dark chocolate. The medium to full-bodied palate is coated with bright black fruits plus grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with lovely purity.

90-92/100Neal Martin,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2015 Segla is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, and a "seasoning" of 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, representing just over half the total crop, matured in 25% new wood. It has a fragrant, very precise bouquet with mineral-rich, very pure blackberry, blueberry and cold flint-like aromas. There is wonderful tension here for a deuxieme vin. The palate is medium-bodied with a juicy opening, just a tingle of spice on the tip of the tongue. There is very fine tension here, moderate weight but great persistence and sense of energy on the finish. On a budget? Thinking of a second wine? Look no further.
