This has beautiful aromatics and a fingerprint of Dominus, with its vivid joyfulness, lifted dark berry fruits, oyster shell and olive tapenade, a great entry to the range. This was a wet year with 129cm of rain compared to yearly average of 80cm, but mainly fell in the winter months, and pretty much stopped in April, meaning a cool start followed by a hot summer, with few extremes and slow ripening. Generous yields, from soils off the alluvial fan, closer to the creek, clay riverbed soils. Tod Mostero winemaker, Christian Moueix owner, 20% new oak.
The 2023 Othello is a tasty entry-level bottling from the front blocks on the property, those on either side of Hopper Creek. Juicy dark red fruit, cinnamon, new leather and cedar are pushed forward in this delicious, effortless Cabernet Sauvignon. Best of all, this should be a fabulous value, too.
