Tasting Note:

Habitually the most seductive of the d’Angerville 1er crus, the 2014 is gorgeous and if anything, a little more focussed than normal. Bittersweet cherry notes, red currant, crisp plum and a tightly wound core of minerals and fine tannins – this is always the last wine to be bottled by Guillaume, and that sense of coiled energy that we tasted back in November 2015 is starting to reveal a wonderful high-toned floral character today. There is breeding here and it is just beginning to seduce. Very fine indeed. A big vineyard in the middle of prime Premier Cru Volnay territory on the south side of the village below Taillepieds, well exposed to the south east. The soil is redder than here than higher up the slope. At the top of the vineyard the soil is very rocky but becomes deeper and more clay influenced towards the bottom of the slope, giving some of the most complete Volnays that, despite ageing very well, can be extremely rewarding in youth.
