Tasting Note:

The magnificent story of Martha's vineyard started in 1965 with a handshake deal between the Heitz family and owners the May family. Today, three generations on and the relationship is as strong as ever. Joe Heitz produced the first vintage with the vineyard on the label in 1966. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Oakville district. The wine is aged for 3 and a half years in wood (1 year in american oak vats and 2 and a half years in Limousin french oak barriques.) More opulent than the Trailside but just as serious and even more powerful, less of the spice and earthiness more of the fruit character, compared to the savoury mineral Trailside. Open-knit flavours of sweet berries and currants, strawberry, fruit liqueur, glycerol, blackthorn and touches of mocha, beautifully velvety tannins provide the heady fruit with a good bit of backbone and direction, this is so complete, an enormously bewithching Napa Cab of the very highest calibre.
