Tasting Note:

Of all the Rhys single vineyards, Family Farm, purchased in 1999 and planted to Dijon clones is the one that tends to be approachable first. With just 25% whole cluster fermentation, and around 15-20% new oak, Family Farm very often parades a note of tea, soil and occasionally something almost peaty on the finish. The 2016 opens up with an expressive but calm nose, all fragrant wild cherry and peppered strawberry notes that float from the glass. On the palate the texture is all limpid ripe fruit, suave acidity, seamless fine grained tannins as flavours of wild herb, peach and strawberry coalesce around this gentle peaty finish. This is one of the few wines Rhys make from alluvial soils.
