Château de La Dauphine is one of the leading estates of Fronsac, with origins dating to 1750 when Jean-Baptiste de Richon established the property, which takes its name from a visit by Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, Dauphine de France. The estate’s vineyards sit predominantly on the limestone plateaux of Fronsac, where clay-limestone soils provide the foundation for wines of freshness, mineral character and depth. Covering around 40 hectares today, the vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with biodynamic practices also employed, reflecting a strong commitment to expressing the character of the terroir. The winemaking is equally precise, with careful parcel selection and gentle extraction designed to preserve the purity of the fruit and the character of the site. Château de La Dauphine produces supple, finely textured Right Bank wines that combine the generosity of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with the freshness and mineral precision for which the finest Fronsac terroirs are known.
