Chateau Figeac takes its name from its Roman owner, Figeacus. Two thousand years ago, the agriculturalists of the time spotted the potential of this terroir. Over the interceding years the property grew to 200 hectares encompassing great swathes of St Emilion and Pomerol. Sales to the likes of La Conseillante and Cheval Blanc formed new ‘legendary’ estates in their own right.
By the time Figeac was purchased by the current owners, the Manoncourt family, the surface area of vines amounted to just 37 hectares. This unique terroir of rolling gravel croupes is ideally suited to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which are planted in almost equal thirds.
Over the past decade, huge investment in personnel, the vineyard and the construction of a state-of-the-art winery have elevated the reputation of this great domaine. In September 2022, Figeac was promoted to Premier Cru Classé ‘A’ in the new St Emilion classification. This accolade is vindication, if it were needed of the quality of their wines and thoroughly deserved recognition for the efforts of the Manoncourt family, their astute technical Director, Frédéric Faye and oenologist, Michel Rolland.
Figeac’s wines are some of the most sought after in the region. Particular highlights include: 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
