The white from Latour-Martillac is a blend of 52% Sauvignon Blanc and 48% Semillon, and the aromatics convey the 2022 message as convincingly as its peers, with notes of blotting paper and tobacco oak. This is matched by a broad and rather bold texture on the palate, a solid middle, with plenty of grip, rather sweetly candied citrus fruits, and a modest acidity. It finishes bitter and phenolic, with a rather pithy length. It has the acidity, just not the phenolic maturity I seek. Tasted twice. The alcohol on the label is 13.5%.
The 2022 Latour-Martillac Blanc has an attractive nose with honeysuckle scents I noted from barrel, though it lacks a bit of mineralité. The palate is rounded in texture with lower acidity than I prefer and an oatmeal-like finish. This falls just below my expectations.
A blend of 52% Sauvignon Blanc and 48% Semillon, the 2022 Latour Martillac Blanc reveals aromas of pear, peach, iodine, lime tree and verbena. Medium to full-bodied, tense and mineral-driven with a salty, fresh finish, this is a classic and incisive Latour Martillac Blanc.
