La Petite Eglise, Pomerol, 2016
Denis Durantou's 2016 La Petite Eglise is an absolute stunner. This 100% Merlot cuvee has notes of tayberry, strawberry liqueur, flowers and blood orange. It is vital, fluid and lithe - a vibrant, high-toned, engaging Petite Eglise that remains feminine and subtle. Finesse over power - absolutely wonderful!
critic reviews
The 2016 La Petite Église has a cohesive and delineated bouquet that is quintessential Pomerol, mainly black fruit, wild hedgerow, truffle and light tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine grip, and is quite backward, and this is one Pomerol where I feel further time in bottle will lend more secondary flavours and personality. A keeper. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.
La Petite Eglise 2016 is 100% Merlot and has a deep garnet color. It needs some coaxing to convince it to show off its nose of beautiful black cherry preserves and juicy plums, plus wafts of violets, dark chocolate, and black olives, with a hint of truffles. Medium-bodied, the palate is wonderfully refreshing and light on its feet, nonetheless offering a complex, well-structured experience, finishing long and plush.
The 2016 La Petite Eglise has a lovely bouquet of wilted violet petals and incense flanking blackberry and raspberry scents. With aeration, there is just a hint of balsamic. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This feels fresh from start to finish. A fine-boned, precise Pomerol that delivers impressive closing precision. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
