Chateau Rouget’s handsome chateau sits just north of the Pomerol Plateau not far from Eglise Clinet and La Croix de Gay. Their 17 hectares are spread across the appellation in three specific parcels. The best terroir is the 12 hectares close to Chateau Trotanoy. Soils are composed of clay, gravel, clay and sand. Subsoils consist of iron-rich sandstone. Merlot represents 85% of plantings, the balance being Cabernet Franc. In 2001 they began an extensive replanting of over half their vineyards and a complete modernisation of the wine-making facilities.
